The Death of Death
Imagine, a world where humanity as we know it ceases to exist, a world where every science fiction movie about computers taking over the human race is a possibility, a world where we can live forever.
Does that mean that humanity is now God? We can create life and take life away, we can fulfill dreams and destroy dreams. Creationism would become a joke, and Darwinism will be laughed at. We humans control our own evolution now.
Oh, I fear the day artificial intelligence can surpass the ability of every man combined, I fear the day no man will die, I fear the day humanity loses its humanity. I used to fear the unknown or not being able to know, I used to fear death and the uncertainty beyond, and I used to fear the cruelty of humanity. But now I have been relieved of these fears, but the new fears which took their place frightens me even more.
The robot that can simplify life is a dreamy concept, but this robot may also take over life. Life will cease to be living. Transferring our consciousness into chips will signal the end of death. So Mother Earth, bring on all your might, I can never die. The day that artificial intelligence recognizes its being is the day humanity ends. The end of our world is coming, after all.
Some say our humanity and consciousness are simply bits inside a supercomputer, understanding its own being yet oblivious to the true reality. This bids me to question what is the true reality, seeing as though if we are simply parts to an overextended equation, who’s to say that equation is not plugged into some other? And when will we see the beginnings of the root equation?
Singularity is coming, my friends, the moment where machine and humanity becomes one. In approximately sixty years, when my organic confines fail me, I will meet you all on the network, where I am simply a function inside a supercomputer. See you then.
The death of death is approaching.
